What Are The Methods Of Improving Mold Life And Mold Polishing?

For users, improving the service life of molds can greatly reduce stamping costs. The factors that affect the service life of the mold are as follows:
1. Material type and thickness;
2. Whether to choose a reasonable mold gap;
3. The structural form of the mold;
4. Whether the material has good lubrication during stamping;
5. Whether the mold has undergone special surface treatment;
6. Such as titanium plating and carbon nitride titanium;
7. Align the upper and lower turrets;
8. Reasonably use adjusting shims;
9. Whether the oblique blade mold is used correctly;
10. Whether the machine tool mold frame is worn;
Mold polishing
1. The importance of grinding molds
The regular polishing of the mold ensures consistent stamping quality. Regular polishing of molds can not only improve the service life of molds, but also increase the service life of machine tools. It is necessary to grasp the correct timing for sharpening the knife.
2. The specific characteristics of the mold need to be honed
For the sharpening of molds, there is no strict number of blows to determine whether sharpening is necessary. This mainly depends on the sharpness of the blade. Mainly determined by the following three factors:
(1) Check the rounded corners of the cutting edge. If the fillet radius reaches R0.1mm (the maximum R value cannot exceed 0.25mm), sharpening is required.
(2) Check the stamping quality. Are there any large burrs?
(3) Determine whether sharpening is necessary based on the noise generated by machine punching. If there is abnormal noise during punching of the same pair of molds, it indicates that the punch is blunt and needs to be sharpened.
Note: The edge of the blade is circular or the back of the blade is rough. Sharpening should also be considered.
3. Sharpening method
There are many ways to sharpen molds, which can be achieved through a special sharpener or on a surface grinder. The grinding frequency of the punch and lower die is generally 4:1. Please adjust the height of the mold after grinding the knife.
(1) The harm of incorrect sharpening methods: Improper sharpening can exacerbate rapid damage to the mold blade, resulting in a significant reduction in the number of blows per sharpening.
(2) The benefits of the correct sharpening method: Regular sharpening of the mold can maintain stable punching quality and accuracy. The blade of the mold damages slowly and has a longer service life.
4. Sharpening rules
When polishing the mold, the following factors should be considered:
(1) In the case of R0.1-0.25mm, the sharpness of the cutting edge fillet depends on the sharpness of the cutting edge.
(2) The surface of the grinding wheel should be cleaned thoroughly.
(3) It is recommended to use a loose coarse grained grinding wheel. Like WA46KV
(4) Each grinding amount (tool) should not exceed 0.013 mm. Excessive grinding can cause the surface of the mold to overheat, which is equivalent to annealing treatment, making the mold softer and greatly reducing its lifespan.
(5) Sufficient coolant must be added during grinding.
(6) When polishing, the punch and lower mold should be firmly fixed and special fixtures should be used.
(7) The grinding amount of the mold is constant. If this value is reached, the punch will be scrapped. If used continuously, it is easy to damage the mold and machine.
(8) After grinding, the edges shall be treated with a Sharpening stone to remove excessively sharp edges.
(9) After sharpening, clean, demagnetize, and oil.
